Jim's Bio

Jim Richards joined the firm in 2005 after serving in both the executive and legislative branches of the federal government. Since joining Cornerstone, Jim has served as a principal and director and successfully advised a diverse set of clients in the agriculture, defense, technology, higher education, transportation, environment and appropriations spheres, among others.

Jim is heavily engaged in Republican politics at the local, state and federal levels. His political engagement, reputation as an honest and direct operator and extensive Member level relationships on both sides of the Capitol allow him to be of service to Cornerstone’s clients and his fellow employee-owners.

Before joining the Cornerstone family, Jim served as the appropriations staff for succeeding chairs of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA and Related Agencies, the director of the Office of Intergovernmental Relations at the United States Department of Agriculture and the chief of staff to his home district Congressman.

Prior to his “temporary” move from his home state of New Mexico, Jim was the general manager of a company, a small business owner, a construction worker and a soldier. He is also the proud father of three, grandfather of two (so far!) and adoring husband to an amazing woman.
